Do you have a passion for healthy and safe food? We are looking for a new team leader for the Pesticides-1 team! Will you be our new colleague?

Your Job
As a team leader for Team Pesticides 1 at WFSR, you will focus on the optimal functioning of the employees in your team and the development of the team as a whole. You will ensure they can perform their work well in a pleasant and physically and socially safe working environment. As a team leader, you are integrally responsible for your team of approximately 25 professionals.

Your tasks and responsibilities as a team leader include:

  • ensuring the scientific and technical quality of the analyses provided by your team. You will organize the work processes in such a way that the team achieves optimal results with everyone taking responsibility;
  • the personal development of your team members and their well-being;
  • project management: You will direct project leaders and coordinators in the execution of project management, staff planning, management of laboratories and analytical facilities, and the preparation of project reports;
  • managing the finances of your team and being responsible for both the financial and operational results.
Additionally, you will be part of the business unit management team along with your fellow team leaders. You will contribute to translating the WFSR vision and strategy into an annual activity plan and a strategic staffing plan for your team. You will represent the business unit in one or more internal working groups.

Your qualities

You are a true people manager: you understand the individual needs and motivations of your employees, as well as the needs of the team and the organization. You are quality-oriented, can effectively manage processes, and handle strict deadlines well. You have successfully completed at least a higher professional education (HBO/WO) in a field related to the team's work (life sciences or chemistry).

Additionally, you have:

  • at least 5 years of experience leading professionals with various educational backgrounds;
  • a good command of both English and Dutch;
  • experience with project management and LEAN working is a plus;
  • knowledge of quality systems (e.g., ISO 17025), occupational health and safety, environment, and safety.
For a team leader at WFSR, the following competencies are important: coaching, connecting leadership, result-oriented management, persuasiveness, organizational sensitivity, planning & organizing.

Where you will work
Wageningen Food Safety Research conducts research on safe and reliable food. We specialize in (forensic) measurements and develop analytical methods to detect unwanted substances in food. We have state-of-the-art LC-MS/MS, GC-MS/MS, and HRMS facilities. The Pesticides-1 team analyzes various food products, food raw materials, and animal feed for the presence of pesticides. Many types of vegetables and fruits entering Europe by container transport or airplane are analyzed by us and reported on short deadlines before being released by the authorities for consumers in the Netherlands and Europe.
The Pesticides 1 team, along with 5 other WFSR teams, forms the Contaminants & Toxicology business unit, which, in addition to pesticide research and routine analyses of food and feed, also conducts analytical-chemical research and develops new chemical analytical methods.

In addition to these first-rate employee benefits, you will of course receive a good salary. We offer, depending on your experience, a competitive gross salary of between € 4862,-. and € 7306,-. for a full-time working week of 36 hours, in accordance with the CLA Wageningen Research (scale 13). Additionally, a contract for 32 hours can be discussed. You will initially receive a two-year contract, which will be extended to an open-ended contract upon in mutual enthusiasm.
