Project Leader in Bacteriology Diagnostics
Your job
We are looking for a Project Leader in Bacteriology Diagnostics. You will be working in the Diagnostics and Crisis Organization department of Wageningen Bioveterinary Research as part of a close-knit team with two other diagnostics project leaders. This team jointly oversees the execution of diagnostics on the work floor. You will serve as a knowledge resource in your area of expertise and be one of the key contacts during an animal disease crisis.
As a Project Leader in Bacteriology Diagnostics, you will have two roles:Responsibilities in the diagnostic process (70% of your time):
- Conducting diagnostic tests for bacterial animal diseases, including serology and pathogen detection, under the ISO17025 quality system through a team of analysts.
- Acting as an expert in bacteriological diagnostics within the Diagnostics and Crisis Organization.
- Advising the government and industry on bacterial disease diagnostics.
- Implementing new tests and techniques for bacteriological diagnostics.
- Initiating and maintaining contacts with researchers within WBVR at both national and international levels.
- Performing tasks related to diagnostics for the National Reference Laboratories (NRL) within WBVR for notifiable bacterial diseases such as brucellosis, chlamydiosis, leptospirosis, salmonellosis, and Q fever.
- Acquiring and maintaining customer relationships.
- Contributing to the animal disease crisis organization in case of an outbreak, including being on-call for crisis diagnostics, which may involve evening and weekend work.
- Actively acquiring internal and external projects within the field of bacteriology.
- Participating as a researcher and subject matter expert in various projects.
Your qualities
- A completed degree in veterinary medicine or microbiology; specialization in veterinary microbiology is a plus.
- Knowledge of microbiology, preferably with experience in diagnostics.
- Strong quality awareness.
- Experience in managing employees.
- Ability to establish, maintain, and expand collaborations.
- Awareness of the broader WBVR environment, proactive attitude, customer-oriented mindset, creativity in generating research opportunities, and strong teamwork skills.
- Ability to perform well under stress.
- Strong social and communication skills.
