The world of scientific information, communication and publishing is undergoing considerable changes. WUR Library is organising a new "Library Dialogues" series to foster discussion on the implications for research and education. The first Library dialogue is about the possibly questionable behaviour of specific publishers and takes place on 12 October in Aurora, room B9242+B9248.

Questionable publishers and journals

We kick off the Library Dialogues with a round table discussion on the possibly questionable behaviour of specific publishers, with MDPI as a case study. This event is being organised with the Wageningen Young Academy.

We hope to address several issues related to possible questionable publishing practices. How do we handle the grey area between responsible publishing and blatantly fraudulent behaviour? What are the pros and cons of publishing in "grey area" journals? What are the consequences for science in general and do you think WUR should have a clearer policy? We use MDPI as a case study. You’re invited to share your experiences!

The round table discussion will take place on campus on 12 October from 12 until 1:30 pm in Aurora room B9242+B9248. More information on the panel participants and location will follow after the summer holidays. For now, save the date and we hope to welcome you on 12 October!

Library dialogues

In recent years, new modes of scientific communication and publishing have emerged, partly driven by new information technologies for example in the field of artificial intelligence. Examples include novel discovery and search services, open publishing models, and innovative approaches to research assessment.

To foster dialogue and collaboration around these changes, WUR Library is organising the "Library Dialogues" series. With campus-wide round table discussions, we invite researchers and teachers to exchange experiences, to share perspectives, and to explore the implications of these developments. Do you know a good topic that would qualify for a Library dialogue? Please, email us at redactie.library@wur.nl and we'll get in touch.
