For 2025, the Library has renewed its journals and databases subscriptions, added new ones, and extended several publication agreements. We’ve also carefully evaluated usage statistics and decided not to renew certain licences. What does this mean for the coming year?

Renewed Read & Publish agreements

WUR participates in national Read & Publish agreements. As of 2025, the following Read & Publish agreements have been renewed:

  • Elsevier, 2025-2026, 2-year agreement including Scopus. Read more about the Read, Publish & Scopus deal with Elsevier.
  • Karger, 2025-2027, 3-year agreement.
  • Mary Ann Liebert, 2025, 1-year agreement.
  • Royal Society of Chemistry, 2025-2027, 3-year agreement.

The Read & Publish agreements are established through a collaboration between SURF, the library consortium UKB and Universities of the Netherlands (UNL). These R&P deals allow WUR researchers and students to access journal content and publish open access free of charge in over 11,000 journals. The full terms and conditions of the national Read & Publish agreements can be found on Publisher Deals | Open Access. Use the WUR Journal Browser to quickly check if a specific journal is part of an agreement.

    Other national deals

The access to the following databases has been renewed:

    New local journal subscriptions

In addition to the national agreements, WUR Library holds several hundred WUR-only subscriptions that are renewed annually. In 2025, you’ve access to the content of the following new journals:

    Discontinued journals and databases

Because of the tighter collection budget, we’ve carefully evaluated which licenses and journals will not be renewed. The evaluation was based on usage data. Last December, we communicated the subscription cancellations to ABI/Inform and Zoological Record. You can read more about this Library subscription choice and alternative resources in this news article.

The Library has also discontinued its subscriptions to print journals that have transitioned to a gold open access publishing model as well as to several journals with low usage. The Library trusts that the current national and local subscription licenses in combination with our interlibrary loan services will ensure comprehensive coverage of scientific literature in WUR’s research themes.
