The aim of the ABG Connection Days is to share knowledge, to connect and reconnect, and share experiences with ABG alumni and colleagues. Hence, the main theme of this year’s edition is ‘Connect & Reconnect’.

“We really want to focus on bringing together ABG alumni and colleagues to share experiences,” says Esther Ellen, deputy head of the Animal Breeding and Genomics department of Wageningen Livestock Research (WLR) and co-organiser of the ABG Connection Days. “We don’t just focus on advancements in research and knowledge exchange – although that’s an important part of the programme as well – but particularly on strengthening our community. Gathering people together supports personal growth because you can learn from each other and exchange experiences. We believe that the ABG Connection Days will provide a meaningful opportunity for ABG alumni and colleagues to grow and contribute to a stronger, more social, and more connected community.”

Sub-themes

The ABG Connection Days are spread over two days and each day will have a specific sub-theme. The theme of the first day is ‘Animals of the Future’ and will focus on Artificial Intelligence, Biodiversity, and Climate Change. The theme of the second day is ‘Breeding all over the world’ and will focus on the role of different ABG alumni working all over the world. “Several alumni who are currently working abroad have already indicated that they would like to give a presentation about their work,” says Esther. “We believe that these presentations will not only give the other attendees access to a broader resource pool and a more diverse knowledge base, but also allow the speakers to feel valued and engaged alongside their colleagues and fellow alumni.”
