Animal Sciences
Department of Animal Sciences
The Department of Animal Sciences is involved in research and education related to the function, behaviour and biology of animals. We focus on three main areas: 1. Animal welfare in sustainable food systems 2. Human and animal health in mutual interaction 3. Animals in biodiversity and ecosystems.
Cluster Animals in Future Food Systems and Society
A world where animals are kept in harmony with society’s norms and values, where future food systems are fully embedded in and accepted by society and where a balance between economic viability and care for the planet and animals is the norm.
Cluster Population Dynamics and Genomics
The increasing food demand of a growing world population and the pressure of new emerging diseases in humans and animals are among the biggest challenges for human societies in the future.
Cluster Integrative Animal Biology
Animals, including humans, are complex systems that continuously have to adapt to a changing environment. Understanding adaptation of these organisms requires a deep knowledge of their biology and functioning which also is relevant with regard to health, performance, sustainable food production and nature conservation.
