Rapid food safety testing
Wageningen Food Safety Research is constantly developing new methods to analyse substances in food. Besides more substances, we also want to measure with greater accuracy, faster and several substances simultaneously.
On site
We are making enormous strides in rapid testing development and would like to tell you about them. Rapid testing is mainly intended to be used on site: in the field, on the farm, in the shop, in industry, at the border, in a restaurant and even at home.
Inspectors, farmers and consumers
Although many of our rapid tests are developed for professionals, such as the inspectors of the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA), consumers and farmers also benefit from these developments.Strip tests
Strip tests (such as a pregnancy test) can easily be used on site and are becoming increasingly sophisticated. It is now possible, for example, to read the results on a smartphone. More information (such as quantity, but also the time and exact GPS location of the measurement) can be obtained in this way. We are now tracing the following substances, among others, with these tests:
- Allergens
- Neonicotinoids (crop protection products)
Multiplex tests
As many substances come in several variants, it is useful to trace all variants with one test. We can already detect these substances::
- Allergens
- Mycotoxins
- Neonicotinoïds
- Antibiotics
- Contaminants
