Spilling the beans on food waste
Summary
Globally, around one-third of food produced for human consumption is wasted.
More than halve of the food is wasted at the household level. This thesis shows why food is waste by making use of the Motivation, Opportunity and Ability (MOA)-framework. It provides a reasonable explanation of the amount of household food waste and guides practitioners to select potential intervention targets and strategies. In addition, it fosters theory on which elements should be part of an effective intervention, namely a motivational next to an opportunity and ability element. This thesis concludes that the MOA-framework is useful to understand and reduce household food waste.
