Your job

Are you passionate about innovative nanotechnologies and their application in immunomodulation and therapy? Wageningen University & Research (WUR) is seeking a highly motivated researcher to contribute to a cutting-edge European project, focused on developing targeted nanotheranostic tools for immunomodulation in the heart.

This is an exciting 3-year project, with plentiful opportunities for collaboration within the consortium. Your primary responsibilities will involve the functionalisation of PLGA nanoparticles for targeting and drug delivery. This will require expertise in covalently binding proteins, ligands, or other functional moieties to the particle surface. The production process utilises a high-pressure microfluidic system, and the nanoparticles will incorporate fluorescent dyes as well as therapeutic agents.

You will work here
You will join the Immune Dynamics section of the Cell Biology & Immunology (CBI), led by Prof. Srinivas and a small, collaborative team within CBI. This project offers numerous opportunities for both local and international collaboration, providing a dynamic and stimulating research environment.

Your qualities

As a postdoc, we expect you to work independently, supervise MSc students, and potentially guide PhD candidates in the future. You should be a team player, contributing to the positive, collaborative atmosphere within the group. Strong communication skills (in English) are essential, as you will be working within a multidisciplinary environment.

You also possess:

  • A PhD in Chemistry, Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field;
  • Experience with polymer functionalisation (essential);
  • Proficiency in particle characterisation techniques such as NMR and DLS (essential);
  • Excellent writing and communication skills (essential);
  • Prior experience with nanoparticles, liposomes, or vesicles (strongly preferred);
  • Familiarity with microfluidic systems (strongly preferred);
  • Experience with MRI (preferred);
  • Background in mammalian cell culture and biological assays (preferred).
In our international working environment there is an increasing amount of communication in English. For this position it is about language level C1 .
