Presenting results Msc thesis at ESPW 2023
Noa van Leuffen presented the results of her MSc thesis at the XI European Symposium on Animal Welfare in Prague on June 29th 2023.
She studied, under supervision of Allyson Ipema, the behavioural responses of broilers to dried black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) provisioning, thereby comparing manual observations with automated detection of pixel changes as a proxy for activity.
Noa explained that dried BSFL provisioning increases broiler activity levels and that pixel changes could provide complimentary information on a more detailed level when compared to manual behavioural observations. The presentation was well received and started some interesting discussions.
Noa currently works as a research assistant at Aeres University of Applied Sciences. Among other things, she provides the practical components in poultry related projects and contributes to sustainability and innovations in poultry farming.
