Food Systems Approach: Food Losses & Waste
To feed the growing population in a healthy and sustainable way, more food needs to become available with less environmental impact. With 1/3 of our food either lost or wasted somewhere along the supply chain from harvest to the consumer, reducing FLW is a key pathway to feed the growing world population in a sustainable way.
Interventions reducing Food Loss and Waste (FLW) should prioritize hotspots in chains and distinguish between prevention, reduction and valorisation of FLW. They should be embedded in a Food System approach and contribute to achieving the SDG's. Given this background this project further elaborates on LNVs FLW policy in relation to food security and embedded in a food system- and circular economy approach which fits into the ambition to deliver to the SDG's.
