Project
Feasibility study into local postharvest and cooling infrastructure investments in the Ethiopian horticulture sector
The required new knowledge involves providing the target group with insight into the estimated cool storage capacity and related investment costs for realizing the selected regional sustainable cool storage facilities. Additionally, it aims to assess (inter)national organisations and their specific financing programs that could be a realistic partner for Ethiopia to finance the regional cool systems hubs.
This agenda aims to enhance our understanding of the shock resistance of domestic and international food systems. By focusing on this topic, the agenda seeks to achieve several key objectives: shock resistance of domestic and international food systems, higher, more sustainable production and efficiency of agri-food sectors, healthier consumer diets, and reduced food loss and waste in low- and middle-income countries. By supporting the realization of the selected regional sustainable cool storage facilities, the proposed project aligns with these objectives and contributes to the broader goals of enhancing food security and sustainability, both nationally and regionally. It demonstrates a commitment to addressing critical challenges facing food systems and working towards more resilient and equitable food systems for the future.
