Avian influenza

In recent years, avian influenza (bird flu) outbreaks have caused significant mortality among poultry and wild birds, leading to substantial costs in terms of animal welfare, ecology, and the economy. For effective disease warning and control measures, access to high-quality, up-to-date data is crucial.

To address this, the project aims to develop a data-handling workflow for epidemiological research on avian influenza outbreaks. The outcome will be a harmonized set of procedures for acquiring avian influenza epidemiological data, designed to effectively manage data from various sources.

This workflow will be integrated into Wageningen Economic Research's data warehouse (Adagio) and will include data on lab-confirmed avian influenza cases in poultry farms and wild birds, wild bird mortality reported by volunteers, and details on poultry farm populations. In addition, an integration between Adagio and Yoda will be built to facilitate easy archiving of data and metadata used in Adagio.
