Reunion Gift

Would you like to support current students in developing themselves as much as possible during their studies, together with your fellow alumni from Wageningen? Give a reunion gift! This year, your donation will go to the WURth-while project, giving refugee students the opportunity to continue developing their academic talents in times of adversity and become part of society.

Because of the war in Syria, I had not been able to study for five years. I was eager to pursue a master's degree in Wageningen, but I didn’t have the financial means to do so. Thanks to the WURth-while program, I was able to take courses and prepare for a master's. I have since completed that degree. It has changed my life.

The WURth-while programme

The WURth-while program of Wageningen University & Research (WUR) was established in 2017 to support refugee students with an academic background. This program focuses on students who are currently awaiting legal status or who have obtained a (temporary) residence permit in the past two years. Through WURth-while, these students have the opportunity to participate in various courses offered by WUR.

With WURth-while, we aim to provide refugees with the opportunity to further develop themselves and actively participate in society. This contributes to the well-being of both the individual refugee and society as a whole. Research shows that exclusion reduces the chances of participating in the labor market and other social roles in the long term. Therefore, WURth-while strives to integrate refugees by keeping them actively engaged in their field and connecting them with students and professors in Wageningen.

Participants in WURth-while confirm that they experience various benefits from being included and feeling welcomed at the university. WURth-while helps newcomers make constructive use of their waiting time and provides them with a valuable bridge to a new future.
