De Vos-Thijssen Fund for Vector Borne Diseases - applicant information

The De Vos-Thijssen Fund for Vector Borne Diseases supports research in the field of vector diseases at Wageningen University & Research (WUR).

Activities

The De Vos-Thijssen Fund focuses on financial support for scientific research and education into the (biological) control of human and animal diseases that are transmitted by vectors (various mammals and insects such as mosquitoes, the tsetse fly, midges or ticks).

The fund has been able to support 10 researchers between 2015 and 2024. 2024 was the last opportunity to apply for funding.

Application

Applications for 2024 are closed. It is not longer possible to apply for this fund.

The fund has a specific interest in research on ticks, but proposals on research into other relevant vector related topics can also be submitted. The proposed budget should range between €5,000 and €10,000.

Budget can be requested for: additional research costs, e.g. additional to a PhD project that is already ongoing, and is meant to deliver clear additional results, such as extra lab measurements, extra field research or an educational component. With the added budget, the ongoing research should be brought to a higher level and deliver concrete results. The fund contributes only to costs that cannot immediately be financed in another way.
