Your job

In this role, you will collect and manage financial and sustainability data from cutters and other fishing vessels for the Business Information Network (BIN). You will maintain your own portfolio of vessels. Additionally, you will be responsible for relationship management with these fishermen. Therefore, you will work closely with our BIN participants at one of our regional offices in Alkmaar, Dalfsen, The Hague, Drachten, Haaksbergen, Goes, Oisterwijk, Meijel, or Wageningen.

The Business Information Network (www.wur.nl/bedrijveninformatienet) comprises approximately 1,500 agricultural and horticultural businesses, 100 cutters and other vessels active in fisheries, and 150 forestry companies. Around 65 administrative assistants at Wageningen Economic Research maintain this network.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collecting financial and sustainability data from a fixed group of vessels and other fishing vessels participating in the BIN. You will gather this data from business administration records or digitally (electronic invoices), derive it from the company's economic accounts, or through surveys with the fishermen. You will record the collected data in a database and make it available to colleagues for research purposes.
  • Managing relationships with BIN participants (fishermen). You will prepare an annual report for the entrepreneur detailing business results and key environmental indicators, and create a digital business comparison overview. During visits to the entrepreneur, you will explain both reports and answer any questions. At the same time, you will initiate data collection for the new year. Each year, you will also recruit a few new participants to the Business Information Network to compensate for natural attrition. For a full-time position, this will require about one day per week on the road after your training period.

Your qualities

  • Extensive knowledge and experience in managing within the fisheries sector.
  • Strong numerical skills, experience with digital accounting systems and/or financial automation processes, meticulous working methods, and attention to detail.
  • A team player who can work independently as well as collaboratively with various colleagues and entrepreneurs.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license (B).
Please note: due to immigration restrictions it is not possible to obtain a working permit for this specific position if you are from outside of the European Union. If you are eligible for a search year or already are in possession of a work permit without sponsorship we welcome you to apply.
