Marloes Klaasse - Climate change
Why climate change?
After following the Minor ‘Climate Change: Mitigation & Adaptation’ during my Bachelor's degree, my interest in this theme was thoroughly piqued. During this minor I examined climate change from different angles. I learned more about the physical, chemical and biological mechanisms of climate change, as well as about the socio-political and/or economic aspect. These different perspectives provide a comprehensive picture of the aspects of climate change and get you contemplating the role you can fill. During my Master’s, I wanted to further deepen my knowledge of climate change.
Communication and climate change
For me, the link with communication came about quickly. Communication is needed to bring about real change. I like seeing myself as the link between the science side and the social side of climate, so I am able to form a valuable bridge, in the service of an organisation like ClimateOutreach, for instance. It aims to communicate about climate change and takes up the challenge of increasing societal engagement and explaining the complexity of climate change. I find that very inspiring.
Courses related to climate change
In my situation, I opted for the life science courses Integrated Water Management and Climate Change Adaptation in Water Management.
