Carlos Cabrera
Being a Wageningen alumni is an unique experience that combines developing deep knowledge in multidisciplinary scientific topics and a mission to create impact back to society. I am proud to be a Wageningen Ambassador to promote this uniqueness in a broader context and work together for a sustainable future.
Carlos studied Chemical Engineering in the University of Costa Rica and decided to move to the Netherlands to continue his studies. In 2009, he won a Nuffic scholarship and graduated in 2011 with a MSc in Biotechnology Specialization Process Technology from Wageningen University. After a couple of years working in the chemical industry in the Netherlands, he went to Delft University of Technology for the completion of his PhD in the Department of Biotechnology in 2017. In 2018, he came back to Wageningen University and founded Greencovery with the support of WUR accelerators and incubation programs (StartLife & StartHub). Since then, he is the Managing Director of Greencovery a WUR spin-off company working together with the food industry to valorize their byproducts and upcycle them to functional ingredients.
Carlos is a proud resident of Wageningen and has 2 daughters.
