UrbIA: Practices, policies and politics of urban irrigation in Africa and Asia
The UrbIA project initiates an interdisciplinary research programme on irrigated agriculture in and around African and Asian cities. Through an innovative approach it aims at creating new insights in the dynamics and politics of urban irrigation practices and its governance. By involving relevant stakeholders in the co-creation of new ways of thinking, the project will contribute to paving the way to realistic changes in both urban irrigation and governance practices.
The project is situated at an important intersection of various key strategic themes of the Wageningen Water Strategy: Water & Food, Water Quality & Quantity and Urbanisation. The programme combines knowledge and approaches from three complementary Chair Groups and will also build an international consortium of research and development partners in Asia and Africa.
