Dr Ir. André van Lammeren appointed Managing Director of the Environmental Sciences Group
The Executive Board of Wageningen University & Research (WUR) has appointed Dr Ir. André van Lammeren Managing Director of the Environmental Sciences Group (ESG). Van Lammeren is currently the Deputy Director General of the National Environmental Assessment Agency (PBL). He will succeed Dr Ir. Bram de Vos, who will retire on 1 April.
Van Lammeren studied Applied Physics at Eindhoven University of Technology and obtained his PhD at Utrecht University. He has since worked at the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) and various ministries. From 2013 to 2016, he was Director of Accessibility & Infrastructure at Rijkswaterstaat. He has held his current position at PBL since 2017.
The Executive Board is pleased that Van Lammeren will take on the leadership of ESG. President of the Executive Board, Sjoukje Heimovaara, looks forward to working with him: “WUR aims to better understand the world around us and contribute to a sustainable, green living environment. That environment has been the focus of André’s entire career, always working at the intersection of knowledge, policy, and implementation. He has worked on topics well known to WUR, such as nitrogen, climate, and the circular economy. He is experienced in our field and driven by content. We are therefore confident that with his knowledge and experience, he will further advance ESG in a way that aligns with WUR’s ambitions.”
Van Lammeren himself is also pleased with the appointment and excited to join WUR: “My first introduction to WUR dates back to 1992 when I was conducting atmospheric research at KNMI. Since then, I have encountered WUR throughout my career, as this institution holds such a wealth of knowledge. ESG also enjoys high international esteem. I therefore look forward to bringing that knowledge even more into public debate. The challenges surrounding climate, biodiversity, and food production are becoming increasingly complex and interlinked. It is up to science to thoroughly understand these issues and provide actionable perspectives.”
André van Lammeren will start at WUR on 19 May 2025. Freya Senf, ESG’s Director of Operations, will be the point of contact for the knowledge unit between 1 April and 19 May.
