Your job

Are you ready for a new challenge as an analyst in an inspiring and dynamic environment? Do you want to contribute to a society where animals and humans live healthily together? Then we are looking for you! We have an exciting vacancy with plenty of opportunities at WBVR in Lelystad, part of Wageningen University & Research.

We are seeking an enthusiastic HBO/MBO-level analyst for the pre-analysis group (DSU) of the Diagnostics and Crisis Organization (DCO) department.

The Role
At DSU, you will handle all samples submitted for diagnostic research. As the national veterinary reference institute, we receive a wide range of samples, including those for animal export, suspected notifiable diseases, monitoring of animal diseases, or scientific projects and studies.

You will register these samples in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and prepare them for transport to other laboratories within Wageningen Bioveterinary Research. This often involves pre-processing the samples.

You will apply a variety of preparation methods, such as processing organ material, swabs, and blood samples. Part of this pre-processing will take place in the High Containment Unit.
A quality-oriented mindset is crucial for these tasks. You will be part of a close-knit team of approximately 6-8 members.

The Department
The laboratories in the DCO department at WBVR are responsible for diagnostics related to monitoring and suspicions of notifiable viral and bacterial animal diseases, as well as performing export diagnostics.

Quality is central to our diagnostics and research. Many of the tests are accredited according to ISO17025. In addition to conducting diagnostics, we develop, implement, and validate tests. These activities are carried out by an enthusiastic and dedicated team of highly skilled analysts.

Your qualities

For this role, it is essential that you:

  • Are quality-oriented.
  • Are proactive and flexible.
  • Work well in a team environment.
  • Can handle stress during busy periods or animal disease outbreaks.
  • Are willing to work outside regular office hours during outbreaks or suspicions of animal diseases.
  • Are prepared to be on standby duty and work evenings and weekends if necessary.
  • Are flexible and open to working in other laboratories if needed.
  • Can speak and understand Dutch.
  • Are customer-friendly and service-oriented.

The tasks will take place in facilities subject to additional quarantine restrictions upon leaving (based on EU regulations). This means you are not permitted to keep cloven-hoofed animals. Additionally, you must avoid contact with these animals and poultry production facilities for 72 hours after completing your work.
