Orientation on Teaching and Training
Do you want to learn more about the practice and theories of education, or do you want to explore if working in the field of education is something for you? Please feel welcome in the orientation programme for Teaching and Training!
In this programme we will introduce you to the world of teaching in formal education settings, of providing trainings/workshops in other professional contexts and of developing education. During the programme we dig into practical themes such as classroom management and dealing with individual differences in class. And we discuss educational theories that are of importance for education in our and other societies. Moreover, we offer the opportunity to do gain experience in educational work during a small practical course and to share experiences with fellows. This practical experience can be followed in any formal educational setting you prefer, or in another educational context such as a museum, business training department, or another context in which education is designed or taught.

To be clear: it is also possible to follow only one course and it is not necessary to have any experience in teaching, giving trainings or developing education.
From academic year 2024-2025 onwards, some logistic details will change in the courses of the orientation programme, such as the names, its course code or the period in which it is taught. Below you find the up-to-date information about all courses for academic year 2024-2025.
Orientation programme for teaching and training VERSUS the educational minor
The chairgroup of Education and Learning Sciences offers both this orientation programme and a Minor Education. What is the difference between these programmes and when to choose for the orientation programme for Teaching & Training?
The orientation programme is designed for any student that…
- …is relatively new to the field of education and want to explore the field stepping into a teacher training programme such as the educational minor; OR…
- …wants to explore the field of educational design instead of the field of teaching; OR…
- …follows a BSc programme that does not align right away to a secondary school subject;
- …wants to work in an educational sector secondary education (such as: primary education, higher education or business contexts); AND/OR…
…has a non-Dutch mother tongue or prefers English classes.
On the other hand, the educational minor is designed for students that…
- …wants to teach in Dutch education (teaching in Dutch secondary vocational education is an option as well), AND…
- …are really considering to step in education as a teacher in the future and are ready to go one step further than exploring the field of education); AND…
- …are ready to follow this fixed programme for six months consisting of 4 internship days at school and one education day at WUR per week; AND…
- …speak Dutch fluently (as this is required in Dutch secondary education).
