Lumbricus: The knowledge programme for a climate-robust soil and water system

Research introduction

Lumbricus is a knowledge program in which water boards, knowledge institutes and entrepreneurs, together with farmers, conduct research into a more climate-robust soil and water system. The program looks at the effectiveness and coherence between various measures that can make the water and soil system more climate-robust. Think, for example, of smart weirs or soil improvement (a method whereby the structure of the soil improves by processing or adding organic material) by means of 'bokashi'.

Research challenges

These practical measures will be implemented in testing grounds in the higher sandy soils of the east and south of the Netherlands and are divided into four themes.

“Bewuste Bodem” – Climate robust soil and water system

“Wellend Water” – Optimizing water management

“Boeiende Beekdalen” – Recovery of stream valleys

“Goede Governance” – Good governance
