Commercial Determinants in Food Systems Governance
MSc thesis vacancy
Description
We are thrilled to announce an MSc thesis vacancy delving into the pivotal intersection of health, sustainability, and food systems governance. This opportunity focuses on applying the commercial determinants of health (CDoH) approach within the context of the Netherlands or the European Union (EU), taking into account the broader implications for sustainable food systems.
The selected candidate will investigate the intricate relationships between commercial actors, policymaking, public health, and sustainability in Dutch or EU food systems. The thesis aims to uncover how commercial determinants influence policy decisions related to food production, distribution, and consumption, impacting both public health and environmental sustainability.
Potential research avenues include assessing the influence of marketing strategies, product formulation, and lobbying activities on dietary patterns, nutritional choices, and sustainability outcomes. The successful candidate will be encouraged to employ a multidisciplinary approach, integrating perspectives from public health, political science, and environmental studies to comprehensively analyse the commercial determinants of health and sustainability in food systems governance.
Applicants with a background in public health, policy studies, sustainability, or related fields are encouraged to apply. Proficiency in qualitative and quantitative research methods is desirable. The findings from this research are expected to contribute valuable insights to academia and inform evidence-based policymaking for healthier and more sustainable food systems in the Netherlands or the broader EU context.
Interested candidates are invited to submit their applications, including a CV and a brief research proposal outlining their approach to applying the commercial determinants of health and sustainability to Dutch or EU food systems governance. For further inquiries, please contact dr. Jeroen Candel.
