LEAP4FNSSA
The European Union (EU) and the African Union (AU) have established a roadmap to improve Food and Nutrition Security and the Sustainability of Agriculture (FNSSA) in both Unions through enhanced Research & Innovation (R&I) collaborations. To contribute to this aim, the LEAP4FNSSA Project has been tasked to establish a Africa-Europe R&I Platform, benefitting from a close connection to the AU-EU policy dialogue and opened to all relevant stakeholders. This Africa-Europe institutional Platform will bring together partners with a stake in R&I on FNSSA and willing to work jointly for more impactful R&I collaborations and knowledge exchange. The Platform has three objectives:
1. Create synergies between the many R&I Programmes, initiatives and actors aiming at improving the food and nutrition security and the sustainability of agriculture in Africa and in Europe.
2. Reduce the hassle of identifying partners in R&I, finding appropriate funding opportunities and reaching out to relevant policy developments.
3. Boost innovation by showcasing solutions that work, supporting creativity and expertise of all stakeholders.
The Platform will be jointly governed between Africa and Europe, referring to the tested principles of International Research Consortia (IRC), and further co-developed by the founding partners. The goal is that it should remain a flexible, purpose-driven platform that prioritizes co-learning over building additional structures.
WUR is working with 34 partners from EU and Africa in the LEAP4FNSSA consortium. Together with the Account Manager Africa, I'm coordinating this project on behalf of WUR. For more information, please visit www.leap4fnssa.eu
