Mapping bycatch in the shrimp fishery together with fishers - WUR
IRC Shrimp (2019-2023)
The IRC Shrimp project consists of a discard monitoring program and an international knowledge exchange platform. The discard monitoring is run with an observer on board Dutch shrimp fishing vessels. The MSC certification as well as the excemption to the landing obligation imply requirements with regard to improving the monitoring of bycatch in shrimp fisheries. The IRC Shrimp project meets the requirements of the MSC certification and allows the sampling from the discard program to be validated. The platform days are intended to share existing knowledge so that studies carried out in several countries can be used optimally, and useful innovations are made available to the fleet more quickly.
