Education - S (Stelios) Kartakis MSc
Stelios' early educational background (University of Thessaly) allowed him to obtain some purely agronomic insights into crop production. Due to his strong interest in agro-economy and the socio-economic side of the sector, he decided to head towards this direction. He had the chance to dive into Consumer Behaviour science, by conducting surveys and performing statistical analysis (PCA) for the needs of his thesis as an undergraduate student, entitled: "Assessment of acceptance & adoption of Cretan diet by British & Russian tourists".
During his Master 2 studies in CIHEAM-IAMM, he has been introduced to bio-economic modelling and more specifically to utility optimisation under constraints, using GAMS software. During his 2nd internship/Thesis, he worked on an EU-funded project and was able to identify farmers' intentions toward a proposed precision agriculture technology by implementing/simulating two policy scenarios, in the form of subsidy and penalty. He also had the chance to expose himself to RStudio software and perform DEA analysis to assess the relative efficiency of the region’s farms.
