MGJ (Michiel) Kallenberg PhD
OnderzoekerI am a Dutch researcher on the development and integration of machine-learning methods for data-driven decision making in agriculture, from yield prediction to fertilizer optimization.
Current role
I am currently working in the H2020 Smart Droplets project, which aims to build a “digital twin” of apple and winter wheat able to mimic farm process interactions, and allow for the exploration of interventions. My work focuses on employing Reinforcement Learning to find data driven policies for reducing the use of nitrogen and pesticides while maintaining or increasing crop yields.
Research history
Throughout my career, as PhD in Nijmegen (the Netherlands), and as postdoc in Wellington (New Zealand) and Copenhagen (Denmark), and then as researcher in a startup I have focused on AI for (breast) image analysis. I have worked in, and collaborated with, multidisciplinary (research) teams, in which the research and development of artificial intelligence models for precision medicine was key.
