The Calabash Onder de Bigi Bon| Premiere Screening of Documentary
On Friday 6 December 2024, the Visum Mundi Screen Theatre in Wageningen hosted the premiere screening of the documentary film: The Embodied Absence of the Past: tourism’s intersection with slavery and colonial heritage memories in the Ghana-Suriname-Netherlands triangle. This is a film by Dr. Emmanuel Akwasi Adu-Ampong
This event was a celebration of the end of the Emmanuel Akwasi Adu-Ampong’s NWO Veni research project (The Embodied Absence of the Past: Slavery, Heritage and Tourism in the Ghana-Suriname-Netherlands Triangle). The premiere screening of a documentary output from the project was followed by a Q&A at Visum Mundi (old WUR Aula).
In the afternoon before the screening Emmanuel led a guided Wageningen Tour. During this tour all participants were invited to reflect and comment on the stories that were told about the historic buildings and sites that were visited.
One of the places Emmanuel talked about was the history of the steenfabriek (brick factory) in Wageningen. You can see the chimney in the distance on the picture below.
This event was organized to commemorate the ending of Emmanuel's NWO Veni project while marking the beginning of his ERC Starting Grant project.
