Frank Baaijens accedes to WUR supervisory board
Acting on a proposal by the Supervisory Board of Wageningen University & Research (WUR), the ministers of OCW (Education, Culture and Science) and LNV (Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality) have appointed professor Frank Baaijens (1958) to the Supervisory Board as of 1 September 2023.
Baaijens graduated from Eindhoven Technical University in 1983 in the field of mechanical engineering and obtained his PhD at the same university four years later. He took a position as a researcher with Philips Research in 1985. In 1990, he was offered a part-time position as a professor at Eindhoven Technical University, which became a full-time position five years later at the faculty for mechanical engineering.
He transferred to the Biomedical Technology faculty in 2002, where he was appointed professor of biomechanics and dean in 2003. Baaijens served as rector magnificus of the TUE from May 2015 till May 2023.
‘WUR holds a leading global position in research, education, and innovation within its domain’, Baaijens comments on his appointment. ‘By continuing to innovate and push the boundaries of knowledge and skill, WUR is uniquely capable of contributing to the key societal challenges we face in the coming decades. New possibilities we are unaware of today will spring from the curiosity of students and scientists. I look forward to contributing to WUR’s ambitions.’
