Mobility

Wageningen University & Research's ambition is to reduce CO2 emissions from all WUR transport by at least 2% annually. The key words of our mobility policy are: safe, healthy, sustainable, accessible and future-oriented.

Less and more sustainable transport means lower CO2 emissions, less particulate matter, less noise pollution, energy savings, no depletion of natural resources and health benefits.

Less and more sustainable transport

Our mobility policy focuses mainly on fewer transport movements:

  • By making more use of digital means, such as MS Teams for blended meetings, we want to work more place- and time-independent. And in doing so, we reduce transport movements, travel time and CO2 emissions.
  • We encourage a switch to more sustainable transport: more cycling and travelling by train (public transport), and less travelling by car or plane. For example, by making it fiscally attractive for employees to buy a (new) bicycle and by participating in bicycle incentive programs such as Love to Ride in the Foodvalley region. But also by our air travel policy (up to 600 km, the preferred means of transport is by train), placing charging points for e-bikes and electric cars, expanding cycle paths and bicycle parking on campus.
  • Finally, we make ‘fossil’ transport more sustainable, through measures aimed at an efficient and greener vehicle fleet and facilitating electric transport. We do this, for instance, via the Mobility as a Service project, MaaS for short. This project involves making various (sustainable) transport solutions available for employees and - in certain cases - students.

Mobility measurements at WUR

We regularly carry out mobility measurements among employees and students. This helps us determine the share of mobility in WUR's CO2 footprint. But we also find out what our employees and students need when it comes to mobility in and around campus.
