Wageningen Food Safety Research has extensive expertise in analysing drugs and drug precursors in environmental samples, food samples and biological samples from animals and humans.
Illicit drug production
Residues from laboratories involved in illicit drug production are sometimes dumped in the environment. If this happens, these substances can end up in the food chain or come into contact with crops. However, it is possible to analyse soil, water and other samples to detect these drugs or drug precursors.
State-of-the-art technology can be used to analyse samples or human hair, urine and other material for drugs and drug precursors or drug metabolites. Antedating residues in hair samples can also give an estimation of the time the drugs were used and whether this use was chronic or incidental.
Active compound
The active compound in Cannabis, Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and Cannabidiol (CBD) content can be quantified, in preparations (eg. CBD-Oil), hemp and cannabis using LC-MS/MS.

Wageningen Food Safety Research is an independent research institute that is part of Wageningen University & Research. Our staff have the knowledge and expertise to detect the presence of these compounds and to quantify their concentration at low levels.
