Laboratory facilities
The analytical facilities of the Animal Nutrition Group contain several laboratories with dedicated equipment and skilled analytical personnel to analyse a multitude of nutrients, biologically active components, and tracers in complex matrices such as faeces and urine, to support the experimental research work within the field of animal nutrition.
The available equipment is well-suited to perform the traditional proximate analyses (such as crude protein, fat, and fibre) and instrumental analysis of specific compounds (such as individual amino acids, fatty acids, minerals, total and insoluble non-starch polysaccharides, biogenic amines). Furthermore, our ICP and IRMS equipment allow accurate analyses of metals (e.g. Ti, Cr, Co) and stable isotope ratios (i.e. 12C/13C or 14N/15N), to be used as tracers in physiological studies.
Our facilities offer a broad range of in vitro digestion and fermentation models to predict feeding values of feed ingredients and evaluate effects of additives or technological treatments for various animal species, including cell culture, enzymatic digestion models, and automated gas production systems to monitor fermentation.
