SG - Creating Subversive Humour
How is subversive humour created? Are there boundaries, when addressing sensitive topics in comedy? Stand-up comedian Djoni de Vos will lift a tip of the veil.
About Creating Subversive Humour
Is there humour in being the principal of a commercial company? Ask Djoni de Vos. She started her career at a management consulting firm, while simultaneously developing herself as a stand-up comedian. Now she works at a venture capital firm, investing in technology startups, by day, and as a stand-up comedian by night.
Why did Djoni aspire to become, and remain, a stand-up comedian? How does she create a joke? (And how funny are they?) What is good humour, and what makes (her) humour subversive? How do you tackle sensitive topics when writing new comedy material? Are there boundaries to what can (and should?) be said on stage, in the form of a joke? Does it matter if there is a big discrepancy between the (subversive) opinions voiced by comedians on stage for the sake of a joke and their private opinions? Expect an inspiring, interactive evening!
About lecture series Subversive Humour
The times are a bit gloomy, so let’s have some fun! Let’s have a look at subversive humour! Mocking the powers that be seems joyful, or at least satisfying. Until you meet some of the caveats. Like: What exactly are the powerful dogmas to be mocked? How funny do you find the distasteful? Can subversive humour turn against itself? But don’t worry. There will be plenty to laugh about in this series.
