Samenvatting

The strong decline of biodiversity in the Netherlands and Europe is a major concern, which has led to many initiatives to restore biodiversity. Biodiversity is of great importance for agriculture and horticulture, for example for the pollination of certain crops and pest management. Many studies have shown that applying the right biodiversity can promote the control of pests with natural enemies. To what extent the environment near greenhouses influences pest control in greenhouses has been much less studied and is often heavily debated. In this report we try to provide a good overview of the current knowledge about the benefits and possible risks of biodiversity around greenhouses for pest control in greenhouses. Based on this, we make a number of recommendations for composing vegetation around greenhouses where, with current knowledge, natural enemies are stimulated as much as possible and natural pest control can be improved.
