Barn fires can lead to large numbers of dead animals and therefore, research is needed into the application of measures that increase the chance of survival of farm animals during a barn fire. This research described possible measures to limit the number of dead animals as a result of barn fire and the effects of other policies and regulations (amongst others environment and animal welfare) on fire safety in barns. This leads to the conclusion that the origin, spread and control of a barn fire depend on many different factors and therefore, to increase fire safety, an integral approach is required.
