Samenvatting
Care for (young) animals is both politically and socially in various animal sectors an important topic of discussion, especially if these animals become ill. Proper treatment of sick and injured animals who require more and specific care and an associated responsible euthanasia policy is an important part of the duty of care of animal farmers. Based on in-depth research with the sector, decision support tools have been drawn up for both rabbit and sheep, which support the farmer's decision-making with sick and injured animals. With the decision support tool, the farmer can make a well-founded decision about whether or not to treat or to euthanize a care animal. To euthanize an animal, the operator must be professionally competent. Frameworks have been drawn up for this in accordance with legislation (EC 1099/2009)
