Samenvatting

This research is part of the Public-Private Partnership, ‘Total use of organic waste streams: growing media, soil improvers, peat replacement and carbon storage’. There is a wide range of biostimulants in the horticultural market, where it is difficult to control and compare the claimed effects with measurements. In a previous study in 2021, a basic test with accompanying protocol was formulated (Blok et al., 2022). This protocol is used in this study, in which 3 growing media (milled white peat, biochar and green waste compost) and three microbial biostimulants (Biovin, CompetePlus and Biopak) were tested. The growth of the Eustoma/Lisanthus crop reacts negatively to mixes with 0.5-3%v/v biochar but less negatively to mixes with 5-10%v/v biochar. Growth responds positively to an addition of 5-10% v/v compost. The addition of the biostimulants is positive for the combinations Biovin 5%v/v compost and Biopak 5%v/v compost. Growth in CompetePlus is hindered by 10%v/v biochar and compost. All additions of a biochar compost mixture result in a distinctly different microbiome and this difference persists until the end of cultivation. The addition of biostimulants has a recognizable influence at the start of the cultivation, especially for Biovin, but the difference disappears later in the cultivation.
