Docent

Alvaro is currently a Remote Sensing lecturer at the Laboratory of Geo-Infomation Science and Remote Sensing. His main task is to support small education within the group. He coordinates and teaches GRS10306, supports GRS20306, GRS32306, GRS34306, supervises MSc. thesis, Internships, and coordinates the MGI thesis rings. Before, he worked as a postdoc in the project “Combining remote sensing and 3D forest modelling to improve tropical forests monitoring of greenhouse gases emissions – 3DForMod”. In 2018, he defended his PhD “Assessing biomass and architecture of tropical trees with terrestrial laser scanning” which focused on the potential of TLS to derive tree parameters. Moreover, Alvaro has been actively collecting data with terrestrial- and mobile- LiDAR in tropics and Europe. He is also the contact person for the Terrestrial Laser Scanning Research at WUR.

Alvaro holds a master degree in Geo-Information Science and Remote Sensing from Wageningen University and has +8 years’ experience working with rural communities and GIS in the Peruvian Andes. Besides working on his own research, Alvaro actively cooperates with other researchers at WUR, startups and companies around the campus regarding 3D modelling and supports internships with them.
