Project
Doelmatigheid van bosmaatregelen
The Dutch Forest Strategy proposes measures to give an impulse to Dutch forests that should contribute to climate and biodiversity objectives. The government considers it important that the costs associated with taking these measures are also sufficiently effective. In addition to the costs, the measures will also provide an important spin-off from other social services, including recreation and wood production. In order to assess the effectiveness of the measures, this project will provide insight into the social costs and benefits of forest expansion and measures for revitalization of existing forests as included in the forest strategy.
The aim of the study is to provide guidelines with which social costs and benefits of measures from the forest strategy can be substantiated and with which (substantiated) choices can be made between measures and possible locations. Because not only the costs of forest measures become clear, but also the related social benefits are shown, the parties involved gain a better insight into the effectiveness of the measures.
To this end, the project will provide an overview of the (potential) additional contribution that different ways of forest expansion and the different management measures from the forest strategy can make in terms of ecosystem services and associated social costs and benefits. In doing so, the methods and knowledge as used in the Natural Capital Account will be used, so that on the one hand existing insights and knowledge can be used and, moreover, the results of this research can also be further used in the Natural Capital Account.
