Collaborations Circular Fashion Lab®
Circular Fashion is a growing theme at Wageningen University & Research. Work is carried out on this theme through (student) research, projects and education. With Circular Fashion Lab®, we want to make even better use of the knowledge for fair, clean, and sustainable fashion. Of course, we need partners in this transition towards circularity. About GIST
Dutch Circular Textile Valley (DCTV) is an icon project in the Consumer Goods Transition Agenda; one of the five agendas within the Government-wide Netherlands Circular program in 2050. In the DCTV there have been four regions identified in the Netherlands, with both a history and a perspective on future textiles and clothing.
The Dutch Circular Textile Valley hubs are active with their own focus.February 2020, the already existing collaboration between WUR and ArtEZ was formalized, in collaboration with Kiemt and supported by Province Gelderland, during the official launch of the DCTV Hub GIST – Gelderse Innovators Sustainable Textiles.
GIST is a hub for research and innovation projects initiated by regional stakeholders in the textile chain. The movement towards a circular economy requires the radical rethinking of existing systems for fashion and textiles (“new regime”). It is less about optimizing the current system (“old regime”). That is why GIST opts for a radical and experimental approach aimed at creating a “new textile regime” through research and the development of (disruptive) innovations.
GIST’s mission is to make the desired and necessary connections between important regional stakeholders in the chain (designers, scientists, entrepreneurs, governments) based on concrete research and innovation projects. The purpose of those connections is threefold:
- Developing knowledge for all partners (research from design perspective, knowledge development);
- Sharing, making accessible and applicable of knowledge, test and lab facilities for all partners (knowledge sharing, valorisation);
- Dissemination of knowledge and concrete results to a wide audience (social awareness and involvement).

The Future of Living Materials
Together with ArtEZ we developed the research project The Future of Living Materials (TFoLM); the results of the first five TFoLM studies were exhibited during the first edition of State of Fashion (June-July 2018), during the celebration of 100 Years WUR (September-October 2018) and during Dutch Design Week 2018 and 2019.

Provincie Gelderland
About Provincie Gelderland
Gelderland is one of the first provinces in the Netherlands with an active policy to stimulate the circular economy. In this respect, Gelderland also acts as a role model, for instance in circular road construction. Businesses are triggered through entrepreneur programmes to reconsider (their use of) raw materials and business models. Via innovations, Provincie Gelderland is working on new biobased resources to replace primary raw materials by biobased options and to close cycles. In the past 3 years a total of more than 60 initiatives have been supported.
