Samenvatting (Engelstalig)
This thesis is about gender norms in the context of smallholder farming, agricultural innovation and rural transformation. Empirical research is situated in rural areas of Central and Western Uganda.
The thesis aims to increase understanding on processes of gender normative change and on how gender norms affect processes of (agricultural) innovation. It also presents approaches and methodologies developed and piloted to conduct gender research in the framework of Agricultural Research for Development (AR4D) – that 1) have potential to contribute to gender equality and women’s empowerment, 2) avoid reinforcing inequalities and 3) raise the critical consciousness of researchers and other stakeholders of AR4D.
