Samenvatting

This thesis explores the lipid metabolism by human gut microbiota and the diet-related factors that influence it. Lipid metabolism by human gut microbiota is a complex process that involves various microbes and their metabolic pathways, potentially influenced by food structure, lipid chemical form, and the presence of other dietary components. This metabolism produces diverse lipid metabolites that may have implications for human health. However, lipid metabolism by human gut microbiota has been largely overlooked, compared to other dietary components such as fibers, proteins, and phenolics. Therefore, this thesis aims to fill this gap by investigating how dietary lipids are metabolized by human gut microbiota and those diet-related factors that would modulate their production.
