dr. J (Johannes) Reiche

Associate Professor

Johannes is an Associate Professor and leads the Radar Remote Sensing team at the Laboratory of Geo-information Science and Remote Sensing.

With his team, he focuses on utilizing radar remote sensing to study human activities in and the dynamics of forest ecosystems at regional to global scales, with a particular emphasis on fundamental radar and multi-sensor methods, near-real-time change monitoring, and the integration with in-situ field data.

Johannes earned his PhD in 2015 from Wageningen University and his MSc in 2011 from the University of Jena. He developed the pan-tropical RADD forest disturbance alerts, represents the land community in the Sentinel-1 Next-Generation Mission Advisory Group, and leads the GFOI R&D group on deforestation alerts. Johannes is committed to ensuring open access to data and tools, effectively communicating research findings, and fostering capacity building to maximize the impact of his work. He teaches radar remote sensing in the MSc Geo-Information Science program. A complete list of his publications is available on Google Scholar.
