Spanish 2 (face-to-face)
Do you want to learn Spanish for a holiday or for your study or work? Did you take Spanish in school, but it has become a little rusty? Spanish 2 will quickly help you get back on track! The course focuses on practical skills and introduces you to Spanish culture. Spanish 2 is the sequel to Spanish 1.
Target group
Spanish 2 is for anyone who has completed the course Spanish 1. Did you have Spanish as a subject in secondary school (HAVO/VWO) or have you gained knowledge of the Spanish language in some other way? If so, you may be able to start Spanish 2 straight away. You do have to complete an intake. This consists of a short telephone conversation with the teacher. The intake is free of charge. If you would like to book an intake, email your telephone number to into@wur.nl. The maximum number of participants per group is 16.
End level
Entry level: A1 (CEFR)
Level on completion: halfway to A2 (CEFR)
Course content
After this course, you will be able to:
- hold short, simple conversations about personal topics;
- understand the key information in everyday conversations about familiar topics;
- understand the key information in short, simple texts (brochures, advertisements);
- write short, simple messages or emails
The emphasis is on speaking skills. Reading, listening, and writing skills will also be addressed. You will also learn more about the Spanish culture. After completing this course, you can take part in the course Spanish 3 (A2).
What will the classes cover?
Skills:
- describing towns, neighbourhoods and cities
- talking about what you like most about a place
- asking for and giving directions
- expressing tastes and describing feelings
- talking about past experiences
- talking about skills and abilities and people's qualities and defects
- talking about habits, duration, difficulties
- making recommendations and expressing agreement
- talking about the beginnen and duration of an action
- identifying and describing people physically
- talking about relationships and similarities between people
- describing a house; comparing
- locating objects in space and describing objects
Grammar:
- quantifiers (some, none, much...)
- prepositions and adverbs of place
- past perfect
- verbs 'poder', 'saber' + infinitive, 'costar', 'sentir'
- form and uses of the past tense (indefinido)
- this, that, that one (este, ese, aquel)
- to get along or not with someone (llevarse bien / mal con) and to like or dislike someone (caer bien / mal)
- possessive pronouns: el mío / la mía, etc.
- uses of ser y estar
- verbs 'gustar', 'encantar' y 'preferir'
Planning
This course includes 8 classes, one per week. Each class is 1 hour and 45 minutes. You should expect to spend 2 to 3 hours on homework each week.

Certification and exam
To receive a Wageningen in'to Languages certificate, a minimum attendance of 80% is required. A diagnostic test is optional.
