Gerard Albers

Gerard Albers is Director Research &Technology of Hendrix Genetics of The Netherlands. Gerard Albers was born in 1951 on a farm in The Netherlands. After obtaining MSc and PhD degrees at Wageningen University, The Netherlands, he spent three years as a postdoc at the University of New England, Armidale, Australia, to work on the genetics of parasite resistance in sheep. In 1984 he returned to the Department of Animal Husbandry at Wageningen University to become an associate professor. In 1986 he joined Euribrid to head the biotechnology research program. In later years several other responsibilities in poultry product development and support were added to this. In 1999 he was appointed manager of Nutreco’s Breeding Research Centre.
After the acquisition of Euribrid by Hendrix Genetics in 2007, Gerard became Director Research &Technology of Hendrix Genetics of The Netherlands, a multi-species animal breeding company with leading positions in pig breeding (Hypor), chicken layer breeding (ISA), turkey breeding (Hybrid Turkeys) and salmon breeding (Landcatch). He heads the Research & Technology Centre (RTC) which carries out research in animal breeding, both in traditional genetics and in molecular genetics, and provides IT support to Hendrix Genetics’ breeding programs for pigs, turkeys, chickens, and salmon. Gerard is member of the Hendrix Genetics Management Committee.
