PhD researcher Aembe Bwimana wrote a blog reminding us that the state is not a thing, but a set of institutions made up of people. People can shape how the state functions and can trigger changes in the way it provides services and makes itself accountable to the population.

Aembe Bwimana is PhD researcher in the Secure Livelihoods Research Consortium (SLRC), which is a global research programme (2011-2017) on livelihoods and services affected by conflict.

Special Chair Humanitarian Aid and Reconstruction

The PhD project is supervised by the Special Chair Humanitarian Aid and Reconstruction. The Special Chair Humanitarian Aid and Reconstruction researches the multiplex ways in which people, institutions, societies and aid interventions respond to conflict and disaster and how this relates to processes of development.
