'Backyard' tourism can save the environment
Tourism does not have to mean travelling to far-flung locations but can be done in our backyard and surroundings.
In a recent TED talk on tourism and climate change, Prof. Edward Huijbens of the Cultural Geography Group told of glaciers being the best measure of global temperatures, as he took the audience on a captivating tour of glaciers and pebbles, of airplanes and trails in the sky, of packed beaches and crowded city centres, crisp blue sceneries and crumbling mountains of ice, of sullen looking polar bears sitting on an ice float that is steadily diminishing. And much more. Listen to his talk in the link below: https://www.ted.com/talks/edward_huijbens_3_ways_to_transform_tourism_to_fight_climate_change
