Advanced Dutch 1 (standard & fast track)
Do you want to improve your Dutch language skills even further, for example so you can talk with colleagues or friends about your research, arts and politics? Would you like to participate in discussions at work or with your acquaintances? Do you think it would be fun to be able to talk with your neighbours, for instance about your living environment? Would you like to broaden your vocabulary, practice communication skills and also learn what makes things typically Dutch? Then take part in the Advanced Dutch 1 course.
Target group
The course is for international employees, PhD candidates or expats who already have prior knowledge of Dutch and who want to learn Dutch for social purposes on and outside their workplace.

Entry level: Halfway to B1 (CEFR)

Course content
What will this course teach you?
Once you have completed the course, you will be able to:
- to describe a city, village or landscape;
- talk about the weather;
- talk about what you do during the holidays;
- make a proposal;
- write an informal email;
- ask for and show directions;
- talk about means of transport;
- describe and evaluate food;
- understand a recipe;
- tell someone what to do;
- specify quantities;
- talk about your house and furniture;
- compare things;
- ask polite questions;
- describe the future;
- write formal emails;
- give advice;
- talk about your health;
- give compliments;
- ask for opinions;
- give your own opinion.
Grammar is always discussed in a communicative context and in functional situations.
For example: When you learn to give advice, you simultaneously learn the verb ‘zouden’ because this verb is often used when giving advice in Dutch.
This course will also cover Dutch pronunciation and interesting aspects of Dutch culture.
The lecturer will speak Dutch as much as possible during the course.
Admission requirements
For this course you need prior knowledge of Dutch. You can sign up for this course, if you have participated in Intermediate Dutch 2.

You follow the course entirely online using the Virtual Classroom in Brightspace or at our location: Campus Wageningen University & Research.
Number of meetings
14 classes each 1,5 hours.

Certification
After the course you will receive a certificate from Wageningen in’to Languages, provided you have attended at least 80% of the classes. Would you like to continue improving your language skills? It is possible to proceed into Advanced Dutch 2.
