Scientific Cooperation for Tropical Forest Conservation and Sustainable Development: Amazon, Congo, and Borneo Science Panels

Convened by the SDSN and the GEF, this event will focus on demonstrating the power and relevance of systematic efforts to strengthen south-south science collaboration to safeguard practical solutions for the conservation and sustainable development of the tropical forest biomes worldwide. By bringing together Co-Chairs and scientists from the Science Panels for the Amazon, Congo Basin, and Borneo (Southeast Asia), the discussion will highlight key challenges, opportunities, and innovative approaches for advancing science-based policymaking and solutions for tropical forest conservation through South-South cooperation. The event will highlight the importance of integrating scientific research and Indigenous and Local Knowledge and encouraging technological innovation to guide decision-making and conservation efforts.

The Co-Chairs of the Science Panels will also provide updates on their ongoing efforts, including the development of their flagship Assessment Reports, set to be launched at UNFCCC COP30 in 2025 in Belém, Brazil.
